This Memorial Day Weekend, there are tons of ways to celebrate an extra day off from work. Most will celebrate it ingesting enough beers and grilled meats to feed an impoverished village. Others will be lucky enough to travel to some of the top tier music festivals happening all over the country. If you aren’t one of those people flocking to a big time festival this weekend, fear not of missing out. There are still super heady parties going down right here in Boston.

If you’re finding yourself at the beginning of a journey into the world of underground electronic dance music, welcome. You may have asked yourself, "What are some weird types of music I've never heard before?" or "What can I listen to if I've grown bored of watching rock bands at local dive bars?" These are both good questions. Before we go any further, I need to warn you - this is an adventure with no end, a pursuit with no goals - it’s an endless ocean of content good and bad, for personalities big and small. It has the power to move you, to change your views, and introduce you to concepts and cultures you’ve never imagined. It’s a humbling pursuit, to say the least.
OK admit it, you’re trash. You’re a constantly growing pile of lukewarm garbage basking in the sun on a hot summer’s day. Nothing you do is cool and everyone knows it. Try to think of the last time you did something dope, and then realize how trash it actually was. You’ve been trying to convince yourself otherwise, but now you’re painfully aware of how much you have in common with the Great Pacific garbage patch, except that the garbage patch will actually have a lasting effect on the planet. Unlike you. Because you’re trash.
I remember the first days of my love of music. I can still feel the nascent rush of a new song, unknown notes and chords and ideas flowing into my brain. I remember my dad carefully tuning the dial on his Panasonic receiver, the matte-black set wiring patchy signals to wooden-boxy Yamaha speakers. I remember that vibe, man! To a child, this was indistinguishable from magic. As an adult, the feeling miraculously remains.

As I walk around Boston, at times daydreaming, I think about throwing the ultimate party, and what that would entail. I’m talking about a rave for the ages - sweat dripping down the walls, super obscure lineup that would only come together in a vacuum, an endless sea of beautiful people, perfect sound reflecting back at you from all angles…
