5. City Dance Party Cambridge, June 26th
Thousands of Cambridge residents and visitors will descend on a blocked-off portion of Mass Ave to cut some shapes out in front of City Hall. This annual celebration is becoming a summertime fixture, featuring a great light show and a truly festivalesque vibe. Dance music enthusiasts come from all over New England and beyond for this one, so expect a diverse group of colorful people mixed with great music, vendors and community. It’s a free event though, so just do the city a favor and don’t break any glass on the streets, huh?
4. FIGMENT Boston, July 25th
Over the past 6 years, FIGMENT Boston has helped bring hundreds of interactive art projects to downtown Boston, inspiring thousands of people to broaden their definition of art by breaking down the wall between spectator and artist and encouraging everyone to participate. And the best part? It’s free. Along with their after dark party, the event will span an entire weekend and is sure to be one of the highlights of the summer for anyone who attends.
3. Thomas Jack Boat Cruise, June 13th
Thomas Jack, the world-leading purveyor of tropical house, brings his summer style to Boston for a cruise on the Harbor. After visa issues prevented him from getting into the country last year, he makes his triumphant return aboard the Provincetown II for one of the 8 events that are part of the Boat Cruise Summer Series. This party is guaranteed to sell out, so make sure you grab your tickets and Hawaiian shirts early.
2. Dancing on the Charles, 5/30, 6/27, 7/18, 9/12
One of the most mystifying and authentic dancing affairs of the year, DOTC returns for four dates this summer. Featuring a diverse lineup, the party will host Dirtybird’s Nick Monaco, to hometown heroes Soul Clap (under whose label Monaco has also had releases), as well as local up-and-comers Don Fochi and Patrick Barry, among others. One of the most important cultural exports of Cambridge, make sure you make it to at least one of these dates this summer.
